Portraits & Figuratives

Portraits are my passion. I love to capture the soul through the eyes of my subject. Every person out there has a story, a history, a soul. When I paint the portrait it is their soul that touches me.

Lucie Rouart

36”x30” Oil on Canvas [Not for Sale] I saw this photograph by Neil Folberg, in the November 2005 issue of Art News Magazine. I was very attracted to the mood, strength of the woman’s face and intense look. Lucy Rouart is the great –grand-daughter of the famous artist Berthe Morisot after a portrait of Manet. Folberg did an amazing photo shoot representing the impressionists of the 19th century in France. I have contacted him in regards to the painting of his photograph.  He requested that I give him is credit and not to sell the painting. As an artist I will ...

Anticipation

Anticipation
I began by thinning the paint to watercolor consistency. Then layered the paint to create a mood. If you look closely you can still see some of the dripping paint. This painting is called 'Anticipation'. When Anissa was pregnant with her first child, I caughfound  her sitting by the window with the light streaming through. I know the feeling of anticipation soon before the birth of my children. I wanted to capture that awe, and the tender loving anticipation of what was happening within her. 30”x24” Oil on Canvas / Framed it is 36'x30' Awarded the Best Theme ...

Green Eyes – Miranda

    Green Eyes Oil Painting
SOLD - 30" x 36" Oil on Canvas - I love this direct look from the woman, sexy, sensual, present, and demanding of attention. Her eyes are the window to her soul. It is a simple palette of red and green, complimentary colors. She is larger than life, like so many of my paintings. I like that gentle power that women exude. She gently commands attention.

Earth Spirit

Earth Spirit
36”x24” Oil on Canvas - Earth spirit was born in the rocky hills in Chatsworth California during a Santa Ana wind that is so prevalent in southern California. Here she stands in the gusty winds as stable and unmoving as the rocks she stands on. The endurance of the rocks of the millennia combined with the soft womanly nature being and being buffeted by the winds reminds me of the Mother Earth. She endures. Earth Spirit. Self Portrait – Summer Time Sun

    Self-Portrait
This artwork was a painting of myself in 2002. The reaction of people who see this painting seem to automatically exclaim “Princess Di.”  I think that they do that because of the down turned head and demur pose. I worked from a photograph that my good friend Paige Peter, (a photographer in Los Angeles) took of me in my back yard. I love how the light touches her skin and creeps around the arm, bouncing of the heals of her feet and how it hugs her shoulders. It is a very relaxed moment, since indicated by having kicked off her shoes. At this time in my life I ...

The Red Skirt

    The Red Skirt Jennifer
SOLD - The Red Skirt, 4’x3’ – Oil on canvas - Part of my series of paintings of people reading. My daughter was always deeply into any book she read.  As I walked through the house I happened to glance over and see this moment in time.  The western warm sunshine was blazing through the window highlighting every item it touched.  Jennifer was so engrossed in the book she was reading she did not even notice that I snapped her photo for future use in my gallery. This painting is hung proudly over the fire place in a home in Beverly Hills, CA, in the home of a ...
